Back to my roots

Some more lunch time Victorians from the National Portrait Gallery.

Turning torso at life drawing class.

Its finally gotten a little bit sunnier here in London so I got a chance to try out my new folding stool! Great for sketching anywhere and I expect to be using it a lot this summer. The above two sketches are from Hampstead Heath.

Barcelona - Arc de Triomphe

Spent this Easter in Barcelona. Its difficult to see whats going on on the screen when its so sunny but you sort of get used to it. Still, its much nicer than sketching in the english rain. Trying to get some brighter colours going instead of my usual browns.

Another head study at lifedrawing class.

ipad painting workshop

Happy new year everyone!

Ive written an article for the magazine ImagineFX. Its about painting from life on the ipad. I went to the Wallace Collection here in London and painted some medieval armour.

If youre interested in seeing the step by step creation of this image, pick up a copy of issue 79 of ImagineFX this month.

Ive done a few simpler lunchtime studies aswell. These were all done in the British Museum using an app called 'Procreate'.

ipad plein air

I got myself an ipad to be able to do colour sketches from life. Would be nice to do it in watercolour but its just not practical. The ipad is surprisingly nice for sketching though, Ive used the program 'Brushes' for these paintings.

These first two are lunchtime sketches from the British Museum.

St Pancras station.

Queens wood in Highgate. Its getting a bit cold for sketching outdoors in London.

Exciting wardrobes!

Our entrance hallway.

Huw Edwards tells us about life in the big world outside.
